This week we continue to discuss the labor market in the blockchain industry. Though blockchain is a hot trend at the moment and more and more people want to get involved in the area, let’s found out if blockchain jobs are really well paid. Maybe the hype is not worth your efforts.

First of all, one should chose between a job in a startup with freedom to create, co-found and acquire equity and a less dynamic strictly regulated job in large private sector or government enterprises. Second,  one should expect startups to pay no higher than $55-80k to young starters with little experience in the area. Third, experienced developers are more likely to receive job offers in big commercial organizations. They can definitely expect a salary no less than $135K in the U.S. Here we must note that salary rates differ depending on the country. In Russia for example, specialists on the mentioned positions will get three times less.

Before going the traditional way and uploading your CV on the headhunting sites we recommend to start with research and networking. Here are three tips that will help you to get the right job in blockchain:

  1. Create a list of companies that you want to work with in the first place. Write a motivation letter that will tell what value you can bring to the company.
  2. Try getting into contact with the right people. Start with attending blockchain meetups and conferences. Create a network that might help you to know who is hiring right now.
  3. Contribute code to blockchain projects on GitHub. Open source code to the bitcoin core network may just bring the right people to your door.
